If you’re thinking of changing your bathroom, renovating it could add value to your home, and we have some great ideas that will help. A good bathroom renovation can add value to your current property and help sell it. So it pays to spend some time thinking about it carefully.
1/ Think about the shape and size of your bathroom and what is feasible.
It’s a great idea to create the illusion of space if you can, especially if your bathroom is small. You could consider extending it, as the extra space will be useful and also increase the value of your home. There’ll also be more storage space and even room for more bathroom fixtures and fittings, such as a sink or shower.
2/ More sinks anyone?
A second sink will be great for larger families and it’s also a great selling point for potential buyers. Your extended family will thank you if you decide to invest in a new sink. They're relatively easy to install and that’s even with less space than you’d like. You could also install two basins adjacent to each other.
3/ Have you considered upgrading your shower?
This is a great idea and as well as the convenience it will instantly give your bathroom an instant refresh, making it appear cleaner and brighter. There are so many showers with so many different technologies out there it’s difficult to choose the right one. It all really depends on whether your bathroom is suited to certain types. We’re talking digital, power, thermostatic mixer and electric showers, so think carefully before you choose. You can also choose from a variety of different screens, such as glass doors or curtains or simply turning your shower into a wet room. There are bathroom planners at certain DIY stores you can check out which could help you decide by looking at different shower combinations, this could help you visualise how it's going to look once it’s been installed.
4/ Clutter and storage.
We can wind up with lots of clutter in our bathrooms, this is largely due to the products we accumulate over time such as haircare, skincare, dental products, toilet roll, bubble bath, shower gel etc. We’d naturally prefer to keep them in a cupboard but sometimes we buy duplicates and they wind up everywhere! You can never have too much storage in a bathroom and we’d have to agree. From freestanding cabinets and cupboards to custom made cupboards and doors are an option. If your bathroom is a little on the small side, you could consider mounting shelving and cupboards on the wall. You’ll find that you have more space and the area becomes cleaner and less cluttered once you’ve created some valuable storage space.
5/ Finally your colour scheme.
A neutral colour scheme is usually suggested for a bathroom, however we believe you should use whatever colour feels right for you, so if that’s orange, green or blue, then go for it. Always try to go for a colour that makes your bathroom appear bigger if it’s on the small side or smaller and cosier of it’s a larger bathroom. You can match bathroom accessories to the colour scheme and make it all coordinate beautifully.
