In our guide to power flushing, we’re going to be discussing what it is and what its benefits and features are. Firstly, let’s ask ourselves what a power flush is. Basically a power flush is a cleaning process that removes rust, sludge and other rubbish from your central heating system. It flushes it out. Without this type of power flushing, your heating system could be contaminated by germs and bacteria which will hamper the effectiveness of your heating system.
How does power flushing work?
The next question you might be asking is, how on earth does it work? Well, the equipment connects to your central heating system and helps to loosen the rust, and while doing so, the heating is switched on so as to identify cold spots on the radiators. When problem areas are identified, water is flushed through each radiator and sludge from the cold spots is loosened and eventually collected and removed. Once water samples are clean the flushing is dispensed with.
Signs to look out for.
So, what are the signs that the heating system could be in need of a power flush? There is a range of problems you can look out for, such as slow warming up of radiators, cold spots where the radiators don’t heat well. There could be a lot of noise coming from the boiler, certain radiators may not work at all and there could also be some leaking. Also look out for boiler cut-outs, sludge in the tank, and dirty water coming from the radiators when they’re bled.
If you’re thinking about having a new boiler installed, then you may find that it’s a good time to flush your system out. This way you’ll avoid damaging the inside of your new boiler with contaminants.
There is an increased chance of damage to your boiler, radiators and more opportunity for breakdowns if you don’t have regular power flushing carried out. Therefore, if you are thinking of having a new boiler, or if you’ve bled the radiators and you have recognised a problem you can’t solve alone, then give us a call here at Hometech Heating & Plumbing because we’re ready to help.
